Web Hosting – 2 Reasons People Buy

Countless web hosting companies have tried to make dependable plans that will adhere to anyone that is on a budget either small or big. As this InMotion review shows there there are many reasons in which people are looking for web hosting. A, they want a personal site or just want to get there foot in the door with the hosting industry and a small plan of a couple dollars a month is just what they have been looking for. There is no sense in spending tons of money on a plan if you are newbie and just want to get your feet wet with the advancements in modern technology. Another reason or B, is they have a business that they want to take online. In order to take there business online they need to purchase SSL certificates which will insure that transactions done on there website are safe and secure. In order to obtain this you need to spend anywhere from 30-100 dollars per month on a VPS package because it is much more secure than a shared package, which is the bottom of the line in the web hosting world. Don’t waste your money on dedicated hosting unless you have several hundreds of dollars you are willing to spend per month. Start slow and build up as your website progresses.

Local SEO is Often Ignored by Small Businesses – to Their Peril

When my business first went online, I didn’t really feel we had anything to offer the internet. As a small local plumbing firm we didn’t have the resources to do anything grand, and as much as I love my business even I wasn’t about to believe that people would want to visit a website all about our firms achievements in the plumbing world. The site we had was created in 2000 and was mostly ignored until around 2005, when we started to get the odd call that mentioned that they found our number through the website.

It was then I realised that I had really had the wrong attitude about how the internet could help a local business. Unlike with bigger firms, appealing to customers on a local basis involves being more in touch with their needs, with the area in general and with getting your name to as many customers as possible. In that sense, my website stopped becoming homage to my company and started to become a much more detailed and interesting form of a placement in the Yellow Pages.

The next problem was that a change of attitude and good intentions are not enough to get a site noticed online. We’re certainly not the only local business to go online – although a surprising number have avoided the internet altogether – and getting visitors was always going to be a problem. I wasn’t prepared to throw money into advertising for the project, but any further investment in the site didn’t seem worth it for connecting with customers only occasionally.

That’s when I discovered the idea of SEO and more specifically, Local SEO. Most of our customers that have found our site had done so by looking through Google after searching for plumbers in our home town, but when I did the search myself I found that our page was three pages into the search, even though a lot of pages before us were either badly made or not relevant at all.
